Benguet league opens 3rd conference

FIVE brackets including at least 30 teams are planned for the third conference of the Benguet Basketball League, which fires off August 8 at the La Trinidad Municipal gym.

Teams from Bracket A are expected to lure former and present collegiate basketball players from Baguio and Benguet in the tournament which will use Fiba rules 2008.

Organizers said the tournament hopes to be an effective vehicle to promote peace and order. It also promotes a healthy lifestyle not only among Trading Post stakeholders but La Trinidad residents as well in the single round robin format of play.

The top four teams in each bracket will play for the cross over semi-finals with the top two teams enjoying a twice to beat advantage.

The tournament, now on its second year aims to establish better rapport among the youth and citizens of La Trinidad and neighboring Benguet towns which will further lead to brotherhood and eventually minimize untoward incidents and physical injuries.

The league also aims to foster harmonious relationships among trading post stakeholders, officials and other members of the community.

Organizers added they aim to build camaraderie and foster relationships, development, and improvement among trading post stakeholders especially since there are diversified cultural roots of people transacting at the said economic enterprise zone after the success of its predecessor, the La Trinidad Trading Post Basketball tournament.

The league was later on expanded to accommodate more teams from other parts of Benguet.
