DSWD opens center for young offenders in Sablan

LEADING the government's social protection programs, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its Cordillera Regional Office recently inaugurated the Regional Rehabilitation Center for the Youth (RRCY), the third and latest center managed by the agency in the Cordillera region.

The RRCY, which was inaugurated by the outgoing OIC-DSWD Secretary, Celia Capadocia-Yangco, is a rehabilitation facility that provides care and rehabilitation services to male children in conflict with the law (CICL) who are below 18 years old. The center is located at Sitio Payda, Barangay Bayabas, Sablan, Benguet.

In her message, the outgoing acting secretary congratulated the region for completing the facility located in one-hectare lot leased by LGU Sablan for 50 years renewable thereafter.

She also stressed that "the presence of such facility will allow the youth to rebuild themselves and realize their dreams."

The secretary also shared how the center will operate to assist its residents.

"The RRCY offers various services to include social and home-life services, educational, health, and dietary services, recreational, cultural and spiritual services among others," she said.

For the DSWD-CAR, regional director Porfiria M. Bernardez, lauded outgoing mayor Bony Tacio and the municipality of Sablan for housing the center and contributing to the completion of the RRCY. She also thanked the DSWD Secretary for her technical assistance during the construction of the center. (PR)
