Smart launches mobile news application

WITH more and more Filipinos relying on their cellular phone to access the Internet for the latest news and information, mobile operator Smart Communications, Inc. announced that its Hot Press service will be exclusively available to company subscribers nationwide, starting today.

With Hot Press, Smart subscribers will have quick access to an unlimited number of the freshest local and international

news delivered straight to a mobile phone at a fixed cost.

Smart wireless consumer division head Danilo Mojica said, “Filipino mobile subscribers have increasingly relied on their handsets to know the latest on entertainment, sports, politics, among others, either from streams of updates in the popular social networking sites, or from news websites. The Hot Press service will enable Smart subscribers to always be among the first to be abreast with the news, whenever and wherever they are, through their handset.”

Hot Press is an application that allows the titles of news items to be displayed as a “ticker,” or text crawling across a cellular phone’s idle home screen. When users click on the ticker, they are led to the mobile webpage of that news item, enabling them to read a summary or the news story in full.

To start using Hot Press, Smart subscribers must first download the application from m.smart.com.ph/hotpress, then install it into the handset. The application works on more than 50 handset types.

Downloading and installing the Hot Press application is free of charge.

The ticker updates and the news summary are also free of charge.

Charging starts only when the user goes to the source website and goes online to read the full article. (PR)
