THE 15th tourism congress held on June 23 at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) tackled various issues on the sustainable programs and concerns of the public and private sectors involving eco-tourism.
The following resolutions were unanimously passed, and to be submitted to appropriate agencies:

1. That the Academe integrate courses in ecotourism in appropriate curricula from the high school to college levels (Department of Education/Commission on Higher Education or Ched-7);
2. That ecotourism-related projects be undertaken in the baranggay level (local government units or LGUs, Province/City);
3. That the government appropriate budget to ecotourism and environment-related programs, especially in the baranggay level (LGUs, Province/City of Cebu);
4. That the government undertake and expand infrastructure and service-related facilities, especially in the countryside (Province and City of Cebu);
5. That the tourism congress review its membership guidelines, and consider the inclusion of membership from the business and academe sectors with sustainable tourism programs and courses, respectively (Tourism Board/Congress); and
6. That the schools develop linkages with national and international foundations, and other groups to support tourism-related research programs (the academe/Ched-7).
During the discussion, the audience became familiar with many nature landmarks and tour activities; green culinary (dishes) concoctions using local ingredients; recycling to produce environment-friendly products, like fashion accessories and furniture, anti-pollution devices; green technology using solar-based and hi-tech fixtures, among others. But, some common concerns on water and power, roads and service facilities, among others, drew various insights, which resulted in the passing of mass resoltutions. According to tourism chairperson, Dr. Mila C. Espina, the CCCI tourism committee will partner with Julie’s Bakeshop in building tourism lounges and comfort rooms in the countryside; and with the Cebu Visitors Convention Center in expanding information networks in small and big establishments to guide the tourists and local visitors.
