Police probe operator's murder

POLICE operatives are now doing intensive investigation to identify the perpetrators who gunned down a motorela and trisikad operator on Friday night along Osmeña St., Cagayan de Oro City.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (Cidu) Chief Reynante Reyes said they have been inviting several persons in connection with the murder of Warren O. Belarmino, 34, married, a resident of Adela Subdivision in Barangay Camaman-an.

Belarmino was shot by one of two masked suspects on board a motorcycle while playing cards game with his wife and some friends along the road at around 9:45 p.m. on Friday.

Police initial investigation showed that Belarmino was outside playing cards game while waiting for the drivers who rented his trisikads to remit their collections.

While in the middle of a game, one of the suspects calmly walked near Belarmino's group and shot him at close range without apparent reason. The suspects then fled on board a motorcycle.

Belarmino's wife brought him to the Maria Reyna Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors. He succumbed to a gunshot wound on his head from a caliber .45 pistol.

Reyes said police is yet to determine the motive of Belarmino's murder.

He said initial investigation of operatives at Police Station 2 in Cogon revealed that Belarmino was a good man and has no police record.

Reyes, however, said Belarmino’s brother is identified as a member of the Batang Mindanao (BM) 29 gang and is now detained at the Lumbia City Jail. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)
