THE 10-man Fellowship Christian Athletes (FCA) team from Bacolod City will represent the country in the Asia Pacific Tchoukball Championship to be held in Woodlands, Singapore on July 9-11, 2010.
They will compete against Singapore, Chinese Taipei, India, Macau, Malaysia, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam in the Men's Open event.
The team is composed of Raymund Jamelo, Rico Francis Loarca, Elmo Quiatchon, Glenn Trabasas, Millord Familiaran, Paul Aujero, Marlon Rivera, Ray Despojo, Ranty Camponion, Josh Crisostomo, Aliza Despojo and Elvira Jamelo.
This is the first team from the country to compete internationally in the Tchoukball tournament.
Familiaran, right winger, said this is the first time that the new sport was introduced to them by Pastor Gary Visitacion, FCA head and President of the Philippine Tchoukball Association.
He said they only learned the game last April after they were trained by Singaporean Jeff Ang, the Secretary-General of Tchoukball Association of Singapore.
He added that they will be competing against high caliber players from the said countries.
Meanwhile, the Davao Tchoukball team will compete in the 18 under category.
Familiaran said the desire to win is there but the real intention is really to experience the sport and introduce the same to the youth in the city when they get back. (With TED)
