Tornado hits 2 houses, crops

A TORNADO destroyed two houses and crops in Hagonoy, Davao del Sur on Monday morning.

Inspector Gil Arobo of the Hagonoy Police Station said authorities had difficulty responding to numerous calls for assistance in Barangay Paligue at around 7 a.m. Monday.

Arobo said the swirling wind hit sitio Homelot near Hernandez compound and he saw how the houses owned by Janet Baguio, 37, and Alvin Antopina, 34, was sucked up in the air.

Police also found several crops uprooted by the tornado.

At least P27,000 worth of property and P5,000 worth of crops were destroyed. No one was reported injured or wounded in the incident.

The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) has assured the victims of financial assistance from the local government.

Last year, tornado also wrecked three houses in a coastal town in Padada.

Authorities remind residents living near the shoreline to stay alert for natural calamities. (Dondon Dinoy)
