Trader nabbed for smoking marijuana

POLICE arrested a 60-year-old businessman for smoking marijuana inside the comfort room of a mall in Davao City on Monday.

The suspect is identified as Cholito Lu, 60, a resident of Jacinto Apartment, Suazo Extension, Davao City.

Lu, who is now detained at the Sta. Ana police station, admitted to the offense.

Andy Guzman, security guard of the mall, told police that he smelled marijuana and followed it to the comfort room, where he saw the suspect in the act of smoking.

Guzman endorsed the suspect to PO3 Dennis Morales of the Sta. Ana police station.

Lu was found in possession of 12.8 grams of dried marijuana leaves and eight sheets of rolling papers.

The suspect is now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 before the City Prosecutor's Office (CPO).

Meanwhile the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Davao Region and the Carmelo C. De Los Cientos Sr. National Trade School (CCNTS) have joined hands in celebrating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (Idadait) in Southern Paligue, Padada, Davao del Sur last July 2.

Part of the event was the Fun Run 2010 and a symposium on illicit trafficking and drug abuse prevention, which was participated by 239 participants including school administrators, students and PDEA personnel.

Sanchez said the event kicked off with a three-kilometer Fun Run in Padada.

The activity is part of PDEA's drive to stop the use of illegal drugs. (AD)
