Davao mayor approves sex education

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte said Tuesday that "sex education would have been good, had it been implemented."

She added she will not hesitate to initiate such in schools as long as schools will allow.

Duterte said she supports the Department of Education's (Deped) plan, formerly under Education secretary Mona Valisno, to incorporate sex education or the Adolescent Reproductive Health Care module.

Asked whether the local government has the capacity to teach reproductive health in schools, Duterte concurred.

"Musugot ko. Dili nako masulti nga pwede nato isulod sa curriculum pero through sa CSSDO, kung muingon ang teachers, pwede ta musulod sa skwelahan (I would approve of it. I cannot say is we could integrate this into the curriculum as DepEd planned but we can do that through the City Social Services and Development Office, we can enter schools)," Duterte said, insisting that it will all depend on the schools as the city cannot insist on it.( Jade C.
