Misamis Oriental schools get ETV assistance

TAGOLOAN, Misamis Oriental – Efforts by local government and school officials to improve quality of education in this town got a big boost as energy firm STEAG State Power Inc. launched once again its Educational Television (ETV) Distribution Program.

Casinglot and Natumolan Elementary Schools each got a complete set of 29-inch flat-screen TV set, a DVD player, Teacher Training VCD, Episode Guide CD and 460 episodes of DVD quality instructional materials designed to boost classroom teaching and learning especially on Science, Math and English subjects.

The package also includes teachers training designed to integrate the ETV templates to classroom instructions.

During the recent turnover rites for these materials, Tagoloan Mayor Paulino Emano recognized STEAG for helping government in its drive to improve quality of public education.

“With the aid of audio-visual system, we expect the classroom learning to be more effective especially in Science and Math subjects,” Mayor Emano said.

Nine public schools in Misamis Oriental have so far benefitted from the ETV project since STEAG launched the program three years ago.

More than P500,000 had been earmarked by the company for this project. The instructional DVDs and educational episodes were developed under the auspices of the ABS-CBN Foundation.

Initial program performance review showed marked improvements in the quality of classroom learning as indicated in higher classroom participation rates and improved academic achievement results. (PR)
