Decorated cop recognized anew

A DECORATED cop from Davao City, who was chosen by Metrobank Foundation as one of the country's Outstanding Policeman in Service for 2009, has again received accolades, this time from the academy where he graduated in 1995.

Superintendent Alden Delvo, Davao City Police Office deputy director for operations, was recently given the Lakan Award by the Philippine National Police Academy Alumni Association Incorporated during its alumni homecoming at the PNPA headquarters in Silang, Cavite last June 26.

Lakan Award is the highest recognition given to PNPA graduate. Delvo is one of the ten PNPA alumni who received such prestigious award from the academy.

Also awarded was Delvo's Patnubay Class of 1995 batchmate Jail Superintendent Dennis Yu Rocamora. Delvo is the only awardee from Mindanao.

No less than Vice President Jejomar Binay handed the award to Supt. Delvo. Boxing champ and Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao was also on hand to witness the latest recognition bestowed to his friend.

Delvo said his Metrobank Award in 2009 and the cocaine haul find in Sasa this city last year was among the myriad factors that meted him the recognition.

Delvo has so far received 18 medals and commendations for various police operations that led to the neutralization of criminals.

Delvo was chosen for his role in the neutralization of kidnap-for-ransom and robbery-hold up groups operating in Mindanao, as well as on the arrest of notorious criminals and the rescue of kidnap victims.

Delvo said the award is the result of his years of hard work and struggle since his days as a patrolman in the Cebu City Metrodiscom, under then police officer and now Senator Panfilo Lacson, until his present position.

"Through all the years, I have proven my worth in the Philippine National Police, to my family, especially my father who told me to work silently. In the end, ingon siya na (he said) my hardwork will be noticed. There are times kasi na musulti ko sa iyaha about sa akong trabaho about sa mga intrigues (when I tell my father about the intrigues against me at work)," Delvo said.

Delvo said the award and all the other citations he received in the performance of his job have made him a more humble person. This, he said, is what he wanted to share to his subordinates who look at their profession as nothing but a job.

"You love your work. If you love your work then you will no longer have to work a single day from now on in your life. Dili ka na man mureklamo kay mahal naman nimo imong trabaho. Mao na akong gusto ishare sa akong mga tao (You will not be full of complaints if you love your job. That's what I want to share with the people)," Delvo said.
