FOR allegedly being lax in their drive against illegal drugs, at least three police station chiefs in Cebu City may be relieved from their post soon.
Senior Supt. Marciano Batiancela, acting chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), yesterday received from the City Intelligence Branch (CIB) a copy of the stations’ performance assessment for the last three months.
The CIB’s recommendation showed that three or four stations flunked the latest assessment, Batiancela said.
He, however, said that he still has to finish reading the copy before he can give his final recommendation. He refused to name the stations yesterday.
Based on the directive of Senior Supt. Valfrie Tabian, deputy regional director for operations of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7, every police station is required to conduct at least two anti-illegal drug operations in a month.
If a police station fails to comply with the requirement for three consecutive months, Tabian said it will receive a “warning to step up.”
The station chief will also be relieved.
Slack
Five of the 11 police stations in the city received a warning for being slack in their anti-illegal drug campaign in May. These are Police Station 3 (Waterfront), 7 (Pardo), 8 (Talamban), 10 (Punta Princesa) and 11 (Mambaling). Their number rose to eight when Police Stations 1 (Pari-an), 4 (Mabolo) and 9 (Guadalupe) also received the warning last month.
Only Police Stations 2 (Fuente), 5 (Carbon) and 6 (Sawang Calero) have been consistent for the last two months.
Once Batiancela is done with his recommendation on who among the station commanders will be relieved, he will present this before the Police Coordinating and Advisory Council.
Batiancela will then ask for a clearance from the PRO 7 for the relief of the concerned station chiefs.
Batiancela also met with the 11 station chiefs yesterday morning at the CCPO conference room. He reminded them of complying with the monthly required number of drug-related operations.
“Dili ta mohunong sa pag-remind nila, pirmente gyod nato sila pahinumdoman kay basin kita pa hinuoy basulon ana (We won’t stop reminding them of their responsibility because we might get the blame instead),” Batiancela said.
