Province plans to develop Paskuhan Village

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Provincial Board through Resolution 1877 bared its plan to develop and manage the Northern Philippines Hilaga formerly known as Paskuhan Village.

In the resolution, the board requested the Office of the President, through the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA), to transfer the operation and management of the Northern Philippines Hilaga to the province.

Based on the plan of the Provincial Government, the same shall be utilized as food terminal outlet and marketing center showcasing the products of different municipalities in the province.

Local officials observed that under the management of PTA, Northern Philippines Hilaga has not become popular as it failed to serve its purpose.

"Kailangan magkaroon tayo ng mga aktibidad sa loob ng Paskuhan Village na talagang pakikinabangan ng mga kapampangan," Vice Governor Joseller Guiao said.

Should the National Government approve the request of the Provincial Government, local executives from different towns vowed support and cooperation to make Paskuhan lively, productive and beneficial to Kapampangans.

They also promised to participate in the formulation of concrete plans to give direction to the tourism vision of the province.

However, there were reports that this city is also interested in acquiring control over the Paskuhan Village.

It can be recalled that as early as 2004, City Mayor Oscar Rodriguez has been lobbying for the transfer of management of Paskuhan Village to the City Government. (Herbert P. Mapiles)
