All set for 14th Milolympics

ALL is set for the 14th edition of Milo Little Olympics Mindanao in Cagayan de Oro City on July 30 to August 1.

Mindanao area organizer Megdonio R. Llamera said the opening ceremonies will start with a jubilant parade of delegation at 12 noon on July 30, which will take off from the Misamis Oriental Capitol Garden to the Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Center.

Llamera said Cagayan de Oro City second district Representative Rufus B. Rodriguez will deliver the occasion's keynote speech while Governor Oscar S. Moreno will give his welcome message before thousands of athletes from various public and private elementary and secondary schools in Mindanao.

Department of Education's regional director for Northern Mindanao, Dr. Luz S. Almeda will have the honor of declaring the formal opening of the meet featuring at least 12 sports events.

These include athletics, badminton, chess, football, gymnastics, lawn tennis, sepak takraw (sipa), scrabble, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.

The general public, Llamera said, is welcomed to witness the spectacular and colorful side-events during the opening ceremonies -- a novel and creative way of lighting the Olympics through an acrobatic football kick, the breath-taking cheer-dance contest, the Miss Milo Little Olympics Mindanao 2010 pageant, and recognitions for delegations with the biggest number of participants, the most snappy march and salute, loudest cheer, and most disciplined.

"We shall be awarding the prizes (cash and plaques) to the contest winners immediately and that will wind up the opening ceremonies," Llamera said. (UCQ/PR)
