Neophyte councilor reaches out to inmates

NEOPHYTE City Councilor Percival Ramos has reached out to inmates at the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center (ZCRC), his first ever project as a newly-elected member of the Zamboanga City Council.

The project launched Friday in coordination with the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Zamboanga consisted of the distribution of water containers to help inmates in storing water and the distribution of personal items such as toothbrush, soap and others.

The water containers were personal contributions of Ramos, who is also a member of the JCI Zamboanga led by Maasin Barangay chairman Misael Bernardo.

Ramos said the project is a result of consultation with ZCRC Warden Supt. Ester Pepito, who also saw the need for the facilities in view of low water pressure at the reformatory facility.

Pepito said the water containers can help augment the water supply at the second and third floors of the ZCRC.

Ramos said additional water containers and other assistance will be provided to the inmates in the future based on continuing consultations with Pepito.

Pepito expressed appreciation to Ramos' initiative for donating the water containers, stressing that it will be a big help to the over a thousand inmates.

The distribution of the items was witnessed by JCI officers from different chapters all over the country who are in Zamboanga City for their 3rd National Board meeting from July 9-10.

The meeting, dubbed as Mindanao Reunion, will also discuss plans for the 2011 National Convention of the JCI slated to be held in Zamboanga City. (Bong Garcia)
