Board vows to pursue environmental programs

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - Pampanga fourth district Board Member Nestor Tolentino said the Provincial Board will sustain the Provincial Government's programs on environmental protection.

"Of course we will sustain what the previous chairman, my colleague Ric Yabut has started. But we will also propose and implement new ones to expand our campaign to protect and preserve our environment," Tolentino, the new chairman of the board's committee on environment, told Sun.Star Pampanga.

Yabut, a returning board member who formerly held the committee chairmanship, has filed essential proposals and resolutions for environmental protection.

Among the proposals of Tolentino were the immediate establishments of Materials Recovery Facilities in municipalities and ridding the Pampanga River of garbage, which become a "favorite" dumpsite of nearby communities in the absence of duly approved landfills.

"We will study the issue carefully and propose solutions and mitigation projects. We would push for the construction of the facility in Lubao as it promises to be an excellent solution to our worsening garbage problem," he said.

Tolentino added that he will sustain what Yabut has started, including a re-study of the pending "No Plastikan" proposal. (Jovi T. De Leon)
