'Akyat bahay' gang nabbed

CANDABA -- Four suspected members of "Akyat Bahay" gang were arrested in Sitio 5 of Barangay Bahay Pare in this town Sunday.

Deputy Chief of Police Francisco Guevarra identified the suspects as Edgar Gatbonton, 18, a resident of the said barangay; Alfredo Paykana, 28 and Edwin Talagtad, 23, both natives of Sipocut Camarines Sur; and Ryan Lerum, 18, native of Bagong Silang Calauag Quezon, all currently residing at Bahay Pare.

Guevarra said victim Aldrin Castro, together with his father Allan, attended a birthday celebration. When they arrived home at about 2:00 a.m., they saw the two suspects rushing out from their residence bringing along with them a bulging bag believed to be loaded with stolen items.

"Huli sa akto ang mga suspek, nang umuwi ang mag ama galing sa isang kasayahan. Wala namang nasaktan subalit ang sabi ng biktima mayroon pang ibang gamit ang nawawala," he added.

Guevarra said that when Castro was about to accost the suspects, another two came out from latter's house.

At this time, one of the suspects tried to stab Castro using a bladed weapon but evaded the attack. A fistfight ensued while the other suspects managed to escape.

Gatbonton was immediately caught and cornered by the father of the victim. He was turned over to barangay officials.

Upon receiving the reports, local police here under Compac 1 led by PO2 Aldrin Soliman conducted follow up operations, which resulted to the arrest of the three other suspects.

Recovered from the possession of the suspects were a Sony component system with two portable speakers and a cellular phone.

The suspects were already charged with theft and attempted homicide before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor.
