PamCham to host talk on flood mitigation programs

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PamCham) will host a brief talk on the flood mitigation programs in Pampanga on its general membership meeting on July 15 at the Carworld Showroom here.

PamCham President Rene Romero told Sun.Star Pampanga that the event will feature Engr. Philip Menez who will discuss the programs being implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in different flood mitigation projects in Pampanga's flood-prone areas.

Menez is the project director of the Pinatubo Hazard Urban Mitigation Project (PHUMP). PHUMP is the lead project implementer of projects and mitigation works on infrastructures affected by the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.

Romero said that the talk will help businessmen and members of PamCham in a better understanding of government projects related to flood mitigation.

Flooding problems, he said, is a perennial problem of the business sector in many areas of Pampanga.

"Flooding is not helpful to business, we would like to know the efforts being undertaken by government so that we can also come up with possible areas of cooperation on the matter," Romero said.

Romero added that the briefing is also essential in drafting plans for disaster response on perennially flooded areas since PamCham has already organized its own disaster response team.
