Bustamante, Julaton meet Aquino (6:27 p.m.)

MANILA -- Two of the outstanding Filipino athletes today paid a courtesy call to President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III Monday.

Aquino welcomed reigning 2010 World 9-Ball champion Francisco “Django" Bustamante and World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight titleholder Anna "The Hurricane" Julaton at the Presidential Guest House in Malacanang.

Bustamante, who was joined by his wife Milagros, gave a cue stick to President Aquino.

He was also joined by billiards legend Efren Bata Reyes and billiards godfather Aristeo Puyat.

Bustamante recently won 2010 World 9-ball tilt last July 6 in Doha Qatar.

He is set to compete in the US Open this October hoping to bag the only title missing in his trophy collections.

According to Puyat, Bustamante and Reyes will represent the Philippines in the World Cup of Pool slated this September in Manila.

Julaton meanwhile gave Aquino the Everlast boxing gloves she used in defeating Mexican Maria Elena Villalobos during their title bout last June 30 in Ontario Canada.

The President had a small talk with the boxing champion even sharing that his father, the late opposition senator Ninoy Aquino Jr., was an avid boxing fan. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
