Alternate sex education module pushed

THE Catholic Church will be coming out with its own module as a substitute to the sex education curriculum of the Department of Education (DepEd).

Pampanga Archbishop Paciano Aniceto, chairman of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on Family and Life (CBCP-ECFL), said they are now planning to release their alternative modules.

Over the weekend, the bishops met with Education Secretary Armin Luistro to discuss the teaching of sex education in public schools.

But he noted that they are not totally against sex education but it should be taught by the right person.

“As long as it is given by the right person in the right way, the right objective and methodology,” he said.

On the other hand, Manila Auxiliary Bishop Bernardino Cortez disclosed that Catholic schools in the country have its own sex education.

“The Catholic schools have their own sex ed. We have the best psychologists. We consult the best educators in the methodology.”

The bishops also urged President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III to support the advocacy of the Catholic Church against the use of contraceptives.

They released the statement as they are banking on the statement of Aquino during his inauguration last June 30, wherein he said that he will listen more to the people.
