Davao school districts below target of enrollees

MAJORITY of school districts in Davao Region have below the target number of enrollees this school year, the regional Department of Education (DepEd) noted.

The following are based on the June 29 DepEd-Davao Region data for school year 2010-2011:

Elementary school districts

Compostela Valley showed 101,750 enrollees, which is 1.52 percent below the target of 103,325; Davao del Norte has an actual enrollment of 59,992, which is 2.60 percent below the target of 61,592; Davao del Sur has 93,418, which is 17.33 percent below the target of 113,006; Davao Oriental is also below their target of 95,892 by 6.69 percent or 89,478.

Davao City is also below the target of 183,098 by 4.89 percent having an actual enrollment of 174,136; Digos City has an actual enrollment of 19,736, which is 6.37 percent below the target of 21,079; Panabo City has an enrollment of 23,351, which is 4.12 percent below the target of 24,355; Tagum City has an enrollment of 29,937, which is 4.03 below the target of 31,195; and the Island Garden City of Samal has an enrollment of 13,650, which is 6.63 percent below the target of 14,620.

Generally, the region's elementary public schools have an actual enrollment of 605,448, which is 6.59 percent below the target of 648,162.

Secondary school districts

Compostela Valley has an actual enrollment of 40,110, which is 5.81 percent below the target of 42,582; Davao del Norte has an enrollment of 22,141 or 1.96 percent below the target of 22,584; Davao del Sur has an enrollment of 28,772 or 6.12 percent below the target of 30,647; Davao Oriental showed an enrollment of 31,533 or 1.43 percent below their target of 31,991.

Davao City showed an actual enrollment of 75,821, which is 6.18 below the target of 80,818; Digos has an actual enrollment of 10,573 or 10.51 percent below the target of 11,815 percent; Panabo showed an enrollment of 8,776 or 9.57 percent below their target of 9,705; Tagum has an enrollment of 12,889 or 9.35 percent below the target of 14,219; and Island Garden City of Samal showed an enrollment of 6,349, which is 2.30 percent below the target of 6,206.

The region's secondary school has an actual enrollment of 236,964, which is 5.43 percent below the target of 250,567.

Preschool

Preschool enrollment in the region, however, surpassed the targeted numbers, DepEd Regional Director Susana Teresa Estigoy said.

Compostela Valley has an actual enrollment of 6,688, which is 16.74 percent over the target of 5,729; Davao del Norte showed 5,597 or 21.62 percent over the target of 4,602; Davao del Sur has 3,804 or 37.25 percent below the target of 6,062; Davao Oriental surpassed their 3,508 target by 57.58 percent with an actual enrollment of 5,528.

Davao City showed an actual enrollment of 7,533, which is 14.88 percent over the target of 6,557; Digos has an enrollment of 1,994 or 10.47 percent over the target of 1,805; Panabo has an enrollment of 2,264 or 29.89 percent over the target of 1,743; Tagum has 2,261 or 33.31 percent over their target of 1,696; and Island Garden City of Samal showed an actual enrollment of 1,280, which is 0.85 percent below the target of 1,291.

In total, the region's preschools have an actual enrollment of 36,949 or 11.99 percent over the target of 32,993. (Jade C. Zaldivar)
