Palace declares July 15 as special holiday

TO MARK the 23rd foundation day of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. issued Proclamation 2, declaring July 15, Thursday as a special non-working holiday.

CAR was created by virtue of Executive Order 220 signed by former President Corazon Aquino on July 15, 1987.

Ochoa signed last July 9 the proclamation declaring July 15 as a special non-working holiday in the region.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the Cordillera region be given full opportunity to celebrate with appropriate ceremonies,” Ochoa said.

With the theme “CAR at 23: Celebrating the Richness of the Cordillera Heritage as we move towards Autonomy and Development,” a parade will be conducted on Thursday to be participated by CAR officials and followed with a program to be held at the Baguio Convention Center.

A Cordillera fashion show will also be staged on the same day in one of the malls in the city, simultaneous with the trade fair, exhibits, and mini-lectures at the Baguio Convention Center.

The following day, a job fair will also be conducted to be facilitated by the Department of Labor and Employment.

On July 30, a State of the Region Address will be given by the Regional Development Council highlighting the current situation of CAR’s thrusts and journey towards autonomy. (JM Agreda)
