Vice Mayor to consult councilors on agenda

IN MAPPING out the plans of the City Council, Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte would prioritize the executive department's decision on its priorities.

Duterte said, while he would arrange a meeting with the City Councilors on what should be their priorities, he would also consider the priorities of City Mayor Sara Duterte.

"I would like to talk (about the priorities of the city) during executive session. Dili pwede magpatawag ko ug unahon nako kung unsay programa. Dapat pud madunggan unsay imong gusto (I can't impose my own programs I should also hear hers)" the vice mayor said Tuesday during Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa.

"We go also into the parity of endeavors and enthusiasm. Buot pasabot tanawon nato kung unsay ilahang iduot mao pud ang atong iresponse (This means we would take note of what the mayor would pursue and we would respond to it on our own)" he said.

"(Sa council) we need to discuss perhaps in a conference our common agenda. We will first hear each other's priorities and we should decide what to prioritize or what we would put first in legislation. After that perhaps we can start on our own programs or their pet projects as each councilor has a particular focus as a legislator," Duterte said in vernacular.

The vice mayor also said that he and the city mayor, his daughter, do not talk about politics privately.

"We don't talk about governance kung kami ra duha (when it's just the two of us) We only talk about it officially," he said.

Meanwhile, the vice mayor said he puts his confidence in the capacity of the city mayor to lead the city.

"Her passion and dedication is inate. Tanawon nato the degree of passion she has to pursue (We would see how she has a degree of passion in her pursuit for service)," Duterte said.

Duterte also approved of the younger Duterte’s agenda dubbed "Barog," which stands for empowered Barangays, Academe, Resources, Order, and Government services.

"I think her track on education would be good. There are a lot of children out on the streets ang iyaha man gung, tanaw nako, ang gusto niya tanang mga bata pugson gyud muiskwela. Dili lang kay hatagan ug opportunity pero pugson (The way I see it she does not only want to provide the opportunity for children to have education but to force them) That's the only way to promote the welfare of the community.

"Kita man pud gani pinugos man ta, Maayo na para mamenosmenosan ang mga bata sa dalan. (I think everyone experiences being forced to go to school. That's good because it would mean there's be lesser children on the streets)" Duterte said.

"This is the best way to set the communities, for the city, to improve more in the next years. Our resources are our children and they would be the ones who would run the city in the next years," he said in the vernacular. (Jade C. Zaldivar)
