Guv bares plan for food expo

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Governor Lilia Pineda bared Wednesday the plan of the Provincial Government and Metro Pacific Chairman Manny Pangilinan in creating a food expo center highlighting Kapampangan culinary offerings and food traditions.

Pineda, during her meeting with Quota International Pampanga-Chapter, said that Pangilinan has set his eyes on the possibility of opening a food expo site at the Hilaga Philippines (formerly Paskuhan Village) promoting Kapampangan food offerings to motorists and tourists travelling along the Jose Abad Santos Avenue and the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx).

"Mr. Pangilinan has raised the potential of Kapampangan culinary sector and its feasibility as a sector or business here. I am urging Quota Pampanga to join us in studying the proposed plan," Pineda said, stressing that Philippines Hilaga is the best location as a one-stop-shop for Kapampangan food that may include restaurants offering Kapampangan food, pastries and delicacies.

The food hub is envisioned to gather all food attractions in all 22 local government units into one area. The project is expected to generate employment and promote a better working market for Kapampangan food.

Pineda said that the plan jives well with her advocacy of advancing the awareness on Kapampangan cultural traditions. She said that Kapampangan food traditions are an essential part of the whole identity of the Kapampangans as people.

"We are very optimistic about the proposal and we are studying it at present for possible implementation," Pineda said, adding that the Provincial Government would create a working group to study, and if approved, create plans for implementation.
