'Aslag' to teach special kids lantern, kite-making

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Local artist group Aslag Kapampangan will host a seminar on lantern and kite-making for special children and differentially-abled children on July 20 at SM City Clark and July 21 at SM City Pampanga in their respective Event Centers.

The event dubbed "Parul at Burarul...Kekatang Pagmaragul" aims to popularize the dying crafts of kite and lantern making among the younger generation of Kapampangans.

Project proponent Rolando Quiambao told Sun.Star Pampanga that the event will also take a social awareness twist on the needs of special children.

"The seminar will also encourage them to take lantern making as a possible means of livelihood. These children can easily learn the crafts as these do not require much physical effort," Quiambao said.

Quiambao said that Aslag Kapampangan has been doing the project of propagating the knowledge on the said crafts for a couple of years now.

Aslag Kapampangan stands for Artists Supporting Local Artists Guild. It is a non-profit, non-stock organization of Kapampangan artists which develops, promotes, and preserves Kapampangan cultural traditions.

The group also offers opportunities to talented Kapampangan youth aspiring to develop their crafts and deepen their passion for Kapampangan arts.

Quiambao said that they are accepting other partners and groups who are willing to contribute to the success of the upcoming event.
