‘Basyang’ death toll now at 26 (5:23 p.m.)

MANILA -- Three bodies were recovered from Polilio Island, Quezon brings the death toll from Typhoon Basyang (international name: Conson) to 26, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said.

In its released 12 noon Thursday, disaster officials said the members of the continuing search and rescue operations team recovered the bodies of 41-year old Bayani Rehensia of Atimonan, Quezon; a certain "Cris" from Lucena, and one that is yet to be identified.

The total fatalities are now up to 26, three from Ilocos Region, another three from Bicol Region, and 20 people from the Calabarzon region.

Some were reported to have drowned while others were electrocuted. Most of the fatalities were hit by fallen tree debris, which was a result of the strong winds brought by Typhoon Basyang.
