CRISPIN Sato Jr. eagerly dons his dancesport gear to practice with his partner Therese Andre Quilaton at the Emotions Training Studio at the Cebu City Sports Center.

The two have never been this excited.  They are one among the champions of the Barangay DanceSport program who will compete in the DanceSport Council of the Philippines national competition this July 17 at the PhilSports Arena in the National Capital Region.

“This is our first time to visit Manila.  We feel so lucky to be part of the team,” said Sato, a Grade 5 student of Apas Elememtary School. Quilaton is a Grade 6 pupil of the City Central Elementary School. The two were three-time champions of the seven-month Dancesport & Hip Hop Barangay Competition Circuit.

Sato’s father is a tempura vendor and his mother is a housewife, and his stints as a dance teacher and a performer helped augment his family’s income.

The Barangay Dancesport program provides year-round free dancesport training in barangay levels for potential athletes.

Sato and Quilaton are now part of the training pool of Dancesport Team Cebu City and can benefit from competitions held outside Cebu.

The other barangay dancesport champions also competing in NCR are Jace Phillip Piner and Mary Joy Dumosmog and they will be joined by 26 other couples in the nationals. (PR)
