A MAN who got shot in the leg raised police suspicion due to inconsistencies he and his companion made when they were questioned.

Richard Dadubo, 36, suffered a gunshot wound in the left leg while walking at the corner of Osmeña Blvd. and P. del Rosario St. at 9:45 a.m. yesterday, near the Development Bank of the Philippines.

He said a man wearing a white T-shirt marked with the number 34 shot him after uttering the words, “Ang cell phone, bay. Ang cell phone.”

Members of the City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) rushed him to the Cebu City Medical Center.

At the hospital, they questioned his companion, who refused to give his name. The companion only identified himself as Dadubo’s cousin.

While Dadubo said he hailed from Cagayan de Oro City, the cousin said they were from Medina town in Misamis Oriental.

He later said they were staying in Consolacion and arrived in Cebu five days ago.

They said they were going to a mall to enjoy themselves.

Instead of answering the police, the cousin declined and kept telling investigators they did nothing wrong.

Cebu City Police Chief Patrocinio Comendador said yesterday they will look into the identities of the two and check if they were involved in other crimes.

“Inconsistencies in statements often lead to the discovery of other crimes,” Comendador told reporters in a news conference.

While he said they did not receive reports that criminal elements have arrived in Cebu from other provinces, he said they could not discount the possibility as it is easy to travel from one island to another.
