Police arrest 3 in Korean slay case

MABALACAT -- Police on Saturday arrested three persons involved in the killing of a Korean national in Angeles City early this year.

Danilo Paredes, James Mina, and Frellie Cabunos, who were tagged as the killers of Kang Ha Yong, were apprehended by joint elements of the Angeles City police and town police in an apartment at Green Meadows Subdivision, Barangay Mabiga, this town.

The suspects have standing warrants of arrest for murder.

Kang Ha Yong was shot dead in front of the Arirang Hotel along the Friendship Avenue, Barangay Anunas in Angeles City on January 30.

Angeles City Police Chief Danilo Bautista said they initiated the operation against the suspects, who are alleged members of a gun-for-hire syndicate, by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court.

Bautista said the victim's business partner allegedly hired the killers for P50,000.

He said that four Korean nationals and 10 Filipinos were indicted and issued warrants of arrest for the murder of Kang Ha Yong.

Bautista said the raiding team led by Superintendent Romel Batangan swooped down on the apartment of the suspects.

Policemen seized from the suspects one Ingram sub-machine gun with ammunition, two shot guns, and some .2 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, and military and police uniforms.

Bautista said they are still verifying reports if the suspects were also engaged in robbery cases.

The suspects were charged with illegal possession of firearms and illegal drugs. They are now detained at the Angeles City police office. (with a report from Ric Sapnu)
