Ceasefire at village councils

BARANGAY officials in Cagayan de Oro are heeding to the call of Mayor Vicente Emano to maintain a status quo on the call for an emergency election at the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC).

Emano said he convened Sunday some 60 barangay chairmen who signed the petition to oust ABC president Aaron Neri.

"Mag-election man sa barangay karong October mao nga giingnan ko sila nga kon mahimo human nalang sa piliay. Pila naman lang sab ka bulan," said Emano through his weekly radio program on Sunday.

However, Emano assured that if the elections of barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) would not push through in October, he will call for another meeting to resolve the issue.

The mayor said the barangay chairmen aired their sentiments against Neri.

He said Neri's colleagues had cited "loss of trust and confidence" as the main issue in the proposed early elections.

"Dunay pagtraydor kuno nga nahitabo pero dili man ako motuo nga nabuhat kana ni Konsehal Neri," Emano said.

Emano also insisted that nobody had orchestrated Neri's ouster.

Nero had earlier named Councilor Alexander S. Dacer and Barangay 40 chairman Yan Lam Lim as behind the plot to unseat him. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)
