Gunman in Baldomero slay known

POLICE in Western Visayas have made a major breakthrough in the murder of Fernando Baldomero in Kalibo, Aklan on July 5 with the identification of the gunman.

Police Regional Office in Western Visayas Director Samuel D. Pagdilao Jr. identified the suspected gunman as Dindo Lovon Ancero, 35, resident of Malingin Bogo City, Cebu.

Pagdilao said the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) "Baldomero" led by Aklan Provincial Police Director Epifanio Bragais Jr. will file murder charges against the suspect at the Aklan Provincial Prosecutor's Office.

Pagdilao said Ancero was positively identified by the 12-year-old son of Badomero in police rogue gallery.

The boy was an eye witness in the murder of his father.

Baldomero, 64, a municipal council member of Lezo town in Aklan, was allegedly shot and killed by Ancero around 6:30 a.m., on July 5, 2010 at Barangay Estancia, Kalibo, Aklan.

The police are still investigating the motive of the killing.

Baldomero's 44-year-old wife, Christine Beatrice, also identified Ancero, whom she recognized as the one she had seen at the vicinity of their place a day before the murder.

The wife also said that a week before the murder of Baldomero, she saw a man wearing sunglasses and a female wearing turban standing across their rented house in Aklan.

This established the suspicion that the suspects have been watching the movements of the victim before he was gunned down.

Another witness, a tricycle driver from Kalibo town, said that few days before the murder of Baldomero, he saw a man wearing a scarf in a black motorcycle three times at the waiting shed along the national highway at Provincial Capitol. The description of the man and the motorcycle matched that of the suspect and the motorcycle used in the killing.

Police records show that Ancero had been involved in illegal drug trade, bank robbery in 2005, frustrated murder and illegal possession of firearms in the past.

Pagdilao directed the Regional Intelligence Division and all intelligence operatives assigned to police support units in Western Visayas to track down the alleged suspects.

Pagdilao said the investigation of the PNP will not rest with the filing of murder charges against the identified suspect. (Lydia C. Pendon)
