GMA honors service awardees

BROADCAST giant GMA Network held a special recognition ceremony for its service awardees during the company's quarterly general assembly held on July 16 at the GMA Network Studios in Quezon City. The event is also part of GMA Network's 60th anniversary celebration this year.

Among the awardees were two employees from Davao and one from Cebu. To gather all its employees, including those from the Network's originating stations in Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Dagupan, the Network used computer-based IP multicast technology to provide video streaming from its Quezon City headquarters to the said regional areas.

MPEG4 encoders and decoders were used to stream video from its four originating stations, which allowed employees from the regions to interact with employees based in Quezon City during the live proceedings of the assembly.

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department of the Network made use of the IP/VPN connectivity to the four stations. This bandwidth is used to carry electronic mails, VOIP, and other data applications and services to the regions. The team likewise made use of broadcast connectivity to facilitate the interaction between the headquarters and provincial stations.

In his message, GMA Network chair, president and CEO Felipe L. Gozon congratulated the awardees and emphasized how the Network values its people.

"Recognizing our employees for their years of loyalty and service to the Network is among our many ways of living up to one of our Core Values - we value our people as our best assets," Gozon said.

Gozon likewise acknowledged the contributions of the Network's employees and talents in helping the company achieve its goals, including being the leader in both TV ratings and revenues. (PR)
