Silay slugger wins via KO in Bangkok

SILAY City native Ariel "Machine Gun" Delgado (19-5-2, 8 KOs) improved his professional record after an impressive second round knockout on Friday over Thai boxer Chen Manoprungrut in a 10-round scheduled bout at the Thonburi University in Bangkok, Thailand.

The 122-pounder Delgado has lost to world featherweight challenger Bernabe Concepcion by technical decision after five rounds in 2006 and to Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat via a majority decision after a 12-round skirmish in April 2009.

Two months after, Delgado rebounded with a unanimous decision over fellow Filipino Jun Eraham in a 10-round fight in Malolos, Bulacan.

Early in January this year, Delgado stopped Japanese Zaragoza Uema in two rounds during a slugfest in Suntec International Convention Centre, Suntec City, Singapore. He followed this win with an impressive first round knockdown of Mongkolchai Singmanasak at Bangkok, Thailand. The Silaynon puncher dispatched his Thai counterpart within 2:12 of the opening canto.

On the other hand, Padjai "The Sniper" Yongyuthgym (7-0, 6 KOs) of Thailand captured the PABA featherweight title when he scored a fourth round stoppage win over Muhammad Des Afrizal (8-5, 5 KOs) in a twelve round scheduled bout.

Yongyuthgym recently scored a point decision over Junmar Dulog in Sydney, Australia while Afrizal holds a 12 round points win over tough Filipino Jack Asis in 2008.

In a six round-flyweight contest, classy Indonesian Vicky Tahumil (33-4-2, 12 KOs) lost to Sukkasem Kietyongyuthgym (2-0, 1 KO) in two rounds.

Tahumil, who defeated world flyweight challenger Angky Angkota in 2002 over twelve rounds battle, lost to current WBA flyweight champion Daike Kameda in 2007. /with reports from fightnews.com
