Board member to lead river clean-up

BOARD Member Patrick Lacson of the third district of Negros Occidental and chairman of the Committee on Aquaculture and Fisheries will spearhead a clean-up drive of all rivers in the province.

Lacson said that he is meeting on Tuesday the 10 barangay captains of Talisay City headed by Councilor CV Lacson and Joemarie Astorga at the Natures Village Hotel and Restaurant.

Officials from the 303rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippines Army led by Col. Maximo Caro and Negros Occidental Provincial Director Manuel Felix will also attend the meeting.

The Minulu-an River will be the first river to be cleaned up, Lacson said.

Many of the residents of Talisay City complained that the river has become polluted because it was made as a dumping site by some residents in the area.

He explained that he made the initiative for the clean-up drive because he finds it important in terms of addressing the climate change problem that is also affecting our country, our way of life and our health.

Lacson said that the clean-up drive will also be supported by some environmental groups. (TED)
