THE M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Niños are looking to extend winning run to 30 including the hunt for its third Leg title as the 7th Leg of the Tournament of the Philippines (TOP) opens today at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym in Manila.

The Niños will test the mettle of the host team Cobra Energy Drink Iron Men in the main game at 2:30 p.m. while the other protagonists, the MP-General Santos City Warriors will play Ani-FCA Cultivators, in the opening match at noon.

A simple opening rites will take place at 2 p.m.

Coming from another Leg sweep at home last Friday, the Niños are now in high spirits as they took the game in front of the Manileños who are raring to see the downfall of the Cebuano squad.

“I strongly told the players that we need to be determined to play in all our games.

We cannot rest until the game is over. We are chasing not only a place in the basketball annals but for the No.1 slot going to the playoffs as well (in this Leg),” Alcoseba said.

The Niños are leading the point standings with 30 points followed by its arch-nemesis Misamis Oriental Meteors with 29 points, Ascof-Lagundi Cough Busters with 24, Treston-Laguna Stallions with 18, host Cobra Iron Men at fifth place with 14 points followed by Hobe Bihon-Taguig with 13, the MP Warriors with 12, Ani-FCA Cultivators with 8 points and the Mandaue-Cebu Landmasters with 7.

The Niño enjoyed a vast experience and height edge over the Iron Men who will be playing with mostly fresh college graduates.
