Lapu robbery suspect shot dead few meters from police station

AN ALLEGED robber was shot dead shortly after walking out of the detention cell at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Monday night.

Four men on two motorcycles were seen shooting Emmanuel Perota, 24, less than 100 meters from the police office and City Hall building.

“Paglabay nila sa naglakaw mora ug ilang gitan-aw kon mao ba gyud to ilang target.

Mao tong ni menor sila unya gipusil dayon (When they passed him, they first made sure it was him so they slowed down. When they were certain, that was when the passengers fired at him),” said SPO3 Rex Ibañez of the Crimes Against Persons Desk.

The two motorcycles left but one returned. The passenger alighted and shot Perota, who was on the ground, two more times.

Perota was arrested last Sunday after he was accused of robbery. But since the complainant failed to file a complaint, police had to release him when the reglamentary period of his detention lapsed.

Residents of Barangay Poblacion, where he lived, also tagged him as the culprit in many burglary incidents in their area—a claim Homicide Chief Juan Capacio confirmed.

Jail

Capacio said the victim was in and out of jail for cases of burglary and robbery.

Police recovered from the crime scene three empty shells and two deformed slugs of .45 pistol bullets.

Two children, who saw the attack, said Perota was still moving despite being shot several times. They said one of the motorcycles came back and its passenger got down and finished him off.

Nobody could give a description of the culprits, though, because they wore helmets, black jackets and gloves.

Lapu-Lapu City Police Director Mariano Natu-el Jr. said they will have to make further investigation on the incident to determine the motive of the attack.
