Student jailed for stealing

A FEMALE student was jailed Monday for stealing from some faculty members of Jose Maria College (JMC).

The suspect was identified as Liberty (full name withheld), 24, single, a Care Giving Course student, and resident of Barangay Panacan, Davao City.

The Buhangin police arrested the suspect after complainants Suzette Cemanas, Josephine Baguio, and Joy Galeo, all JMC faculty members, positively identified her.

The victims told the police that they left their laptops, cell phones and money in a room on the 4th floor of the school building but when they returned at around 5 p.m., their valuables were already gone.

SPO2 Josepher Quiba said they recovered Cemanas's laptop worth P30,000 at the suspect's house. Liberty also admitted that she pawned Galeo's cell phone at Ros-Ver Pawnshop.

The suspect's mother promised to pay the P2,000 her daughter has stolen from Baguio. Appropriate charges have already been filed against Liberty.

Meanwhile, a driver died after his truck overturned at Sitio Pagan Grande, Barangay Tamugan, Davao City at around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Sherwin Kintanar, 37, married, resident of Cumuco St., Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat.

Kintanar was declared dead on the spot when the Mitsubishi Fuso Cargo (plate number YAD-214) he was driving overturned. The truck, which is owned by the General Trade International Philippines, Inc., was carrying 123 motorcycles from Marilog Proper to Davao City.

The accident also injured Kintanar's helper, Reymond Octaviano. (AD/MAL)
