MANILA -- Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez is facing an impeachment case filed by former Akbayan representative Risa Hontiveros, resigned General Danilo Lim, and parents of deceased Navy Ensign Philip Pestaño.
“Sa hamon ni Ombudsman Gutierrez na bigyan ng ebidensiya, ito na ang ebidensya,” Hontiveros said referring to Gutierrez's dare to her critics to present proof of their allegations.
The grounds of the complaint were betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution while citing seven cases including the delay of the Ombudsman in conducting and concluding its investigation into the death of Ensign Philip Pestano.
Before his death, Pestano was said to have documented proof of the corruption in the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Hontiveros has already discussed the complaint with members of the House of Representatives to seek their endorsement. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
