Personnel from the City Tourism Promotion and Development Services Division of the City Mayor's Office, in coordination with the local Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and other agencies headed the Zamboanga delegation to the three-day exposition.

The participating exhibitors include two canning factories namely: Columbus Seafoods Corp., maker of 555 sardines; and Fortune Group Corp., maker of Youngstown sardines; and other producers such as Angie's Yakan Cloth, Zamboanga Shell House, Kingland Hopia, Zambasul Mercantile, Katilingban, Tropical (Kalamansi Juice), Lubian's Art World and Mindanao Pearl Center.

Organized by MediaWorx International, Inc., the event promises to provide the opportunity to introduce new products and services to thousands of targeted consumers, Lobregat said.

Lobregat said that it is one of the largest travel and tourism events in the country.

Lobregat's preference for tourism- and trade-related events is one of the highlights of his last term platforms of governance as spelled out in his inaugural speech during the City Council's maiden session early this month.

He declared that in the next three years of his administration, the City Government shall focus on "our social contract with the people as well as implementing programs and projects" identified in the City Development Strategies (CDS).

Development of the local tourism industry is among the top priority of the City Government with the establishment of new parks and gardens such as Jardin de Maria Clara, Paseo del Mar and soon to open the Plaza del Pilar.

Networking and outsourcing with business and prospective investors is also part of the strategy, LObregat said. (Bong Garcia)
