Police score big in crime prevention

THE Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) pursued a "no-nonsense" campaign against all forms of criminality in the city and posted at least 91 accomplishments within six months since its creation.

These accomplishments include the arrest of three of the nine "hired killers" in the ambush of Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH)-Northern Mindanao assistant regional director Mauro Bravo that caused the death of his driver and would-be killers of DPWH Regional Director Jerome dela Rosa, and arrest of the suspects in the murder of an Indian national and several notorious suspected robbers.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (Cidu) chief Reynante Reyes said Cidu was created to closely concentrate on the investigation of crime incidents in the city as well as solve it.

"We tried our best to do our job especially that this is not an easy task for us men and women at the Cidu since all the pressures are on us," Reyes said during the blessing of Cidu's newly renovated building at the Maharlika Headquarters Friday.

Cidu's recent accomplishment includes the arrest of suspected carnappers and robbers involving P1.5 million from a business establishment.

Reyes attributed Cidu's success in crime solution to the various innovations and anti-crime efforts being implemented by Cocpo, including the maximization of police patrol on the streets.

"And the support also of our upper ranks in Cocpo," he added.

With the encouraging result of Cidu's anti-crime campaign, Reyes said they are optimistic that through continuous support of higher headquarters, the City Government and the community, Cocpo will be successful in all its undertaking against criminality in the city. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)
