HALAW: Ways of the Sea, the Cinemalaya finalist helmed by Zamboanga director Sheron Dayoc along with Dabawenyo crew members (Arnel Barbarona, Joel Sanggalang and Maki Serapio) won Best Film (New Breed Full-length film category) along with Best Director award for Dayoc and Best Actor award for lead actor John Arcilla in the recently concluded Cinemalaya Film Festival.
Meanwhile Dabawenyo film director Arnel Mardoquio's latest full-length epic Sheika, which was unceremoniously booted out from the main competitions, won the Netpac (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Special Prize award.
