Cop kills wife, commits suicide

A POLICEMAN shot his wife dead following a heated argument and then turned the gun on himself after realizing what he did early Sunday at Barangay Panacan, Davao City.

Police Officer 2 Godofredo Concepcion Jr., 47, a member of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11, and his wife, Marife, 35, of Block 26, Lot 27 in Luzville Subdivision, were found bloodied inside their room by their children, who went to check after hearing gunshots.

Sasa Police Station chief Joe Neil Rojo said in his spot report that the couple had a heated altercation before the shooting, although they could not as yet establish what the couple was fighting about.

From what was gathered, the couple was already arguing early morning and so Godofredo intended to leave early for work to end the argument.

Marife, however, grabbed Godofredo's service firearm and motorcycle keys to stop him from leaving. The argument was continued in the bedroom where gunshots later emanated.

Marife had several gunshot wounds in her body while Godofredo had one gunshot wound in the head, according to Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco)-Davao Region.

Godofredo was brought by paramedics of the Central 911 to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) but was declared dead.

Police authorities recovered a 9mm caliber handgun and five empty shells of at the crime scene. (AD)
