NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. plans to convert ‘pala-pala’ market into a food terminal.

Marañon said he plans to equip the place with food storage facilities to preserve and ensure the quality of food and other market and marine products sold.

Updates on President Benigno Aquino III's presidency

The Provincial Government will run the food terminal, the governor said. He stated that he has already tasked the Provincial Engineer's Office to prepare the design for the food terminal.

The idea for the conversion into a modern food terminal dawned on the governor after his recent visit in General Santos City to observe some the industries in the province.

He added that the food terminal project will be patterned after the Alcantara Supermarket in General Santos City, South Cotabato, which offers export-quality products like bangus.

Aside from the improvement of the existing market, Marañon is also inviting prospective investors to put up a business in a vacant lot located at the back of the Old Provincial Capitol building.

He clarified that the Provincial Government is inclined more towards a joint venture with any interested investor than in selling the Provincial Government's property. (TED)
