San Sebastian gets quarters slot (1:26 p.m.)

MANILA -- San Sebastian-Excelroof bucked a slow first set as it fashioned a 27-25, 25-21, 25-18 victory over Perpetual and earned a playoff for the last quarterfinal berth in the 7th Shakey’s V-League second conference at the Arena in San Juan Sunday.

Guest player Suzanne Roces, Karen Berbano and Elaine Cruz delivered the last three spikes against a hit by the Altas as the Lady Stags posted their fourth straight sweep in the premiere volleyball tilt.

Thai import Jeng Bualee finished with a 27-point output and drew solid support from Roces, who had 15, and Joy Benito, who tossed in 11 hits.

“Our objective is to win as many games as possible,” said SSC coach Roger Gorayeb.

Sandra delos Santos led Perpetual with nine hits while Ronerry dela Cruz had eight and Claire Bulatao and Nica Guliman finished with six apiece.

The loss was Perpetual Help’s third against a lone win in the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and organized by Sports Vision.

San Sebastian, backed by Excelroof, guns for a fifth straight win against Adamson on Thursday then take on National U on August 1 before wrapping up its eliminations campaign against Far Eastern University on August 12. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
