THIS year's So Kim Cheng Male Athlete of the Year awardee Jose Joaquin "Joboy" Gonzalez bagged a total of one gold medal, two silvers and one bronze at the close of the Senior Long Course National Swimming Championships at the Trace Aquatics Center in Los Banos, Laguna over the weekend.

The Laguna-based Gonzalez more than made up for his absence in the 22 SKC awards night held at Pantawan Hall of Pagcor, Grand Regal Hotel on July 22 by also crashing his personal best records in the meet.

He clocked four minutes and 35.89 seconds in the men's 400-meter individual medley (IM), speeding past teammate Clarence Lambino and Manila tanker Jhonmar Gonzales.

"My favorite event is the IM. It's the event I've really been training on. I think I did good in it and the rest of my events," Gonzalez told Sun.Star Davao in text messages Monday.

Gonzalez also cornered the 400m freestyle and 100m backstroke silvers and the 100m freestyle bronze.

His returning cousin, Anna Celina Gonzalez, salvaged a bronze in women's 200m butterfly bronze.

Joboy was hailed as SKC's top male athlete for winning one gold, one silver and one bronze in the 34th Southeast Asia (SEA) Age-Group Swimming Championships last month.
