Erap's son wants Genuino investigated (1:41 p.m.)

MANILA -- The son of former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada wants former Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) chairman Efraim Genuino to be investigated after he was alleged to be involved in some anomalous transactions in the agency.

“There is an urgent need for a lifestyle check on former chairman Genuino and his men and an in-depth auditing of Pagcor under the previous administration," said Representative Joseph Victor Ejercito (lone District, San Juan) while urging the new appointed Pagcor officials to begin the investigation.

He added that the investigation is in line with the administration's battle against corruption particularly with the recent discovery of the P21-million purchase of cheeseburgers and chicken meals from a fastfood chain.

It was discovered that the former Pagcor chairman issued a check amounting to P21.119 million and payable to the agency's former president and chief operating officer Rafael Francisco on June 28, just two days before President Beningo "Noynoy" Aquino took his oath of office.

“Going after former President Gloria Arroyo's bagman and his involvement in anomalous issues as chairman of Pagcor is a crucial step towards ending corruption in the agency," Ejercito added. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
