TWO treasure hunters died after they fell into a deep hole they were digging in search for "hidden treasures" in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported.

The Zamboanga Peninsula Police Office (ZPPO) said that the incident took place last Saturday in the village of Militar, Tukuran town.

Police identified the fatalities as Severino Vaflor, 52, and Arnel Adorable, 37, who died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

The two were digging for hidden treasures when Adorable suddenly slipped and fell into the hole. Vaflor also fell when he tried to rescue Adorable, the police said.

Authorities learned that Adorable and Vaflor were digging for the alleged hidden treasures for the past several days before the incident.

The bodies of the two were retrieved through the joint efforts of the police and villagers. (Bong Garcia)
