Kumon holds education and parenting seminar

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Kumon, which is a supplementary learning method that complements regular schooling, held the Philippines Education & Parenting Seminar at SM City Pampanga, Cinema 6 as part of its 2010 nationwide series.

With the theme "Empowering Your Children To Discover Their Full Potential," Kumon invited some parent-speakers to enlighten participating parents on how to come up with a good parent-child relationship.

Media personality Patti Laurel was the event's emcee, while AKI-DLSU Deputy Director Marissa Garcia and TV Host Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino IV graced the event.

Garcia started it off with her module regarding self-learning, self-independence, and self reliance. The discussion was all about good parenting towards children development. Along with two other guest parents on stage during the forum, she shared her insights and views from which the queries were gathered from the audience themselves.

According to Agnes, one of the guest parents, learning from kids is learning as a parent. "Parenting is I think the hardest thing in the world but could also give the deepest joy ever. Being a parent, always take care of yourself, give yourself time and enjoy family life," she said.

On the other hand, Bam Aquino, who is a Young Global Leader Awardee and became the youngest person in Philippine history to head a government agency at 26, also shared on his parents molded him to become a good person.

"My parents are not popular. When I was kid, my father (Paul Aquino, youngest brother of late former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr.) taught me on how to emphasize achievements. Both my parents never gave us luxury. Binibigay nila ang mga needs namin but when it comes to things we want, pinag-iipunan namin. If you want something in life, work for it. Only love of our parents is free and nothing else is. Those are the things I learned from them. I owe them who I am now," he narrated.

The parenting event has been the most attended so far.
