Docyogen retains URCC pinweight belt

ROY DOC-YOGEN made a rear naked choke and extended his winning streak to eight to retain his pin weight belt in the Universal Reality Combat Championship XVII event dubbed 'Havoc'.

The undefeated Docyogen earned a victory at the 9:26 mark of the first round edging Saipan's Team Haga Jordan Ogo at the jampacked A. Events hall in Makati Saturday evening.

It was a night of fireworks for both Docyogen and challenger Ogo with both fighters taking turns in taking each other down in the early minutes of the first round.

The architecture graduate got his first belt in URCC VIII "Undisputed" on May 20, 2006 via TKO from the then-champion Jeanyce Baga of Negros Top Team where his most fight ended in a technical knock-out or via submission with only one fight going the distance, against Yawyan Buhawi's protege Alvin Ramirez.

"As expected, Docyogen, the longest reigning champion was at his best defending his title for the first time against a foreign challenger," said URCC founder and president Alvin Aguilar.

Docyogen, more aggressive than his challenger, tried to finish the fight early with an armbar from the guard but Ogo eventually get out from trouble.

The undefeated from Team Lakay Wushu had also attempted a kimura but it failed to finish Ogo off.

Docyogen, who was busy as a bee, then had the chance to execute a rear naked choke in the dying minutes of the round. The Saipan challenger tapped out after this.

Earlier in the event, Team Lakay wushu's Honorio Banario earned a first round victory against Bernard Soriano.

Banario, who has a boxing back ground took control of the fight early by taking down Soriano to the ground and forcing Soriano to tap out after he was pounded by Banario with 2:55 remaining in the first round.
