5 hurt as tricycle falls off cliff while avoiding pothole

WHILE trying to avoid a pothole on the road in Barili town, a driver failed to stop his tricycle from falling down a 30-meter cliff.

Five people were injured when the Motoposh tricycle driven by Anselmo Diaz Bardinas, 30, plummeted down the cliff beside the provincial road in Sitio Cabacungan, Barangay Japitan past 7 p.m. Monday.

The wounded passengers were identified as Gealuna Blanco, 12; Maria Luna Blanco, 36; Glecerio Blanco Jr., 36; Eleuterio Arabis, 41; and Alfonso Libre, all residents of Barangay Candugay, Barili.

Bardinas picked up his passengers in Barangay Poblacion and were driving them back to Barangay Candugay.

When he reached the area, he noticed the pothole and swerved to the left to avoid hitting it.

Instead, the tricycle fell down the cliff.

Bardinas didn't suffer a scratch and ran away from the scene before angry residents could go after him.

He surrendered to the Carcar City Police Station. Bardinas hails from Barangay Cogon in Carcar City.

Police there turned him over to the Barili Police Station.

In Daanbantayan town, a collision occurred between a passenger bus and a motorcycle Monday morning.

The incident took place in Barangay Calape at 9:20 a.m.

The Ceres Bus with body number 8840, driven by Aurelio Cando Abayon, was on its way to Daanbantayan proper when it collided with the motorcycle driven by Nevementes Dumon.

Dumon was brought to the Daanbantayan District Hospital and was later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City.

The motorcycle was badly damaged and is now impounded at the Daanbantayan Police Station while the bus was damaged on its front left side.

In the nearby town of San Remigio, a man and his son were hit by an AUV past 7 p.m.

The Isuzu Crosswind, driven by Joemel Pasilan Decara, 33, came from Hagnaya and was headed for Bogo City.

It hit Renoel Ruedas, of legal age, and Richard Ruedas Mencidor, 5, who were crossing the main highway in Sitio Kabaw, Barangay Poblacion.

He brought the two to the Severo Verallo Hospital in Bogo City for treatment and surrendered to responding police officers. (MEA)
